my approach to yoga

Attitude

Keep yoga fun and light. Try to stay out of the ego; enjoy the practice rather than the mastering of yoga asanas. Ride the edge of comfort and challenge, and surrender yourself to the sensations of the present moment.

Body

Vinyasa flow peppered with power yoga. Maintain proper alignment, utilize the body’s energy locks (the bandhas), and engage every muscle to get the maximum benefit from each pose. Lengthen the spine, open the chest and move multidimensionally to fight the effects of gravity and experience freedom and vitality.

Breath

Ujjayi breathing provides the rhythm for the practice and the opportunity to heighten awareness while building internal heat and energy. Breathe slowly and deeply from the diaphragm, utilizing equanimity while deepening and lengthening poses.

Mind

Stay in the present. Feel every pose and muscle, calm the mind and breathe fully. Quiet the vrittis (mental distractions and circular patterns of consciousness). If we can exist without negative emotions, irrational thoughts and stress even for an hour, we’ve accomplished something amazing.

Music

Whether calming or energizing, music sets the mood and tone for practice and takes us on a journey.

Spirit

By focusing intently on the breath and maintaining a sense of calm while challenging the body, we can elevate our consciousness and connect to the deepest, purest part of ourselves—our soul.
