Back Strengtheners & Patanjali’s 3rd Yama – Asteya

April 22, 2010

From April 22nd through May 5th we will be strengthening our back muscles and practicing Asteya – non stealing.  Non stealing not only refers to material objects, but taking the attention from another person, topping another person’s story with one of your own, doing something for someone, thereby taking the opportunity for them to learn to do it on their own, overcommitting yourself to events that steal time that should be spent taking care of yourself, your children, your spouse, etc.  Questions to ask yourself these weeks:  Where do I (and should I) place value?  Do I have enough?  Do I have too much?  Are my things making me happy or am I overburdened by the responsibility?  What does true wealth mean?  (….perhaps those things that no one can take away from you.)

Just added a new class!

I’ll be teaching at a great studio in Vista, called Yoga Vista on Sunday mornings from 9am to 10:15am.  It’ll be  a level 2-3 vinyasa flow, but all levels are welcome!  Yoga Vista runs a special for new clients:  Unlimited yoga for 30 days is only $30.00.  Come try it out; I would love to see you there!

April 5-18th, 2010 Class Focus: Core

Hi everyone!  For the next two weeks we’ll be focusing on the core, which is where the strength for all yoga poses originates.  As beginners, you may notice that limbs seem to have a mind of their own, working independently of the torso.  For this focus, we’ll be making sure that our limbs are an extension of our core–everything stemming from our Mula Bandha and Uddiyana Bandha.  At my studio classes, we’ll also be practicing Salamba Sirsasana (the king of all yoga poses, the headstand) and Ahdo Mukha Vrksasana (handstand).  Don’t worry, there will be many options!

Also, I’ll be delving into yogic philosophies week by week.  This week will be the 1st Yama by Patanjali:  Ahimsa, which means to do no harm.

Can’t wait to see you all!
